|AOL Names Julie M. Jacobs General Counsel|
NEW YORK, May 10, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --AOL Inc. (NYSE: AOL) today announced the appointment of Julie M. Jacobs as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. As AOL's chief legal officer, Jacobs will oversee the company's legal affairs, manage the AOL legal department and provide counsel to senior management on a range of issues.
Jacobs joined AOL in 2000 and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel where she managed all the corporate and transactional legal work for the company including securities law compliance, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions. Jacobs, who will report to Chairman and CEO Tim Armstrong, succeeds Ira Parker, who is transitioning to an advisory role at AOL after serving as General Counsel since 2006.
"Julie is a proven leader and outstanding counselor, and I am delighted to welcome her to this new role. From overseeing complex financial transactions, to negotiating key business arrangements, to restructuring ventures across AOL's international footprint, Julie is devoted to upholding AOL's values and protecting the interests of our stakeholders," said Armstrong. "Ira was instrumental in leading AOL through the 10-month process of spinning off from Time Warner. There was an incredible amount of work that went into that effort and in getting us to last week's moment when we hosted our first shareholder meeting as the newly independent AOL. We're grateful for all of Ira's efforts on behalf of the company."
Jacobs will assume responsibility for all legal, regulatory, compliance and public policy matters for AOL and serve as Corporate Secretary to AOL's Board of Directors and as key liaison with stockholders and advocacy groups.
"I have seen AOL grow from an Internet service provider to a world-class content, advertising and consumer applications company and look forward to working with our talented global team of lawyers and our senior management to address the priorities that will shape AOL's future and the next stage of our company's growth," Jacobs said.
Jacobs, 43, joined AOL from Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy LLP, where she represented foreign and domestic clients in connection with major financings, transactions, securities offerings and restructurings. Selected as Deal Maker of the Year in 2007 by the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel, Jacobs graduated J.D. cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
